Westford Tournament Information

Several CYBL Divisions will participate in the 22nd Annual Westford Youth Basketball Association All Star Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The Tournament will be held on Saturday, February 15th and Sunday, February 16th at the Blanchard Middle School, West Street, Westford, MA. Participants from several area towns will engage in spirited play throughout the weekend. We wish all the players and coaches Good Luck!!!


2014 Tournament Schedule

Directions to Westford Tournament:

From the SOUTH:
- Take Route 3 NORTH to Exit 33 (Route 40)
- At bottom of ramp, go RIGHT onto Route 40 West toward Westford/Groton
- From "Entering Westford" sign on Route 40, travel about four (4) miles
- At fork in road, take left onto North Street. Sign says "Forge Village".
- Travel about 1.5 miles, then take a right onto West Street. Saint Catherine's Church is on corner.
- Approx. 0.25 miles on left is Blanchard Middle School (14 West St.), where tournament is being held. Park in lot - use right side door.

From the NORTH:
- Take Route 3 SOUTH to Exit 33 (Route 40)

2014 TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Westford Tournament/Junior Boys: Chelmsford Grabs Second Place

The Chelmsford Junior Boys All-stars earned two wins against Westford and hung tough against a very talented Billerica team only to fall in the finals 66-52. In the opening game on Saturday against Westford, Chelmsford struggled early but managed an 18 all tie at halftime. The game was close throughout in the second half and was not sealed away until Aiden DiPasquale blocked a shot late in the game and Chelmsford took a 48-44 win. Rocky Burke and Ben Burke led the scoring with 7 points. Paul Malone added 6 while Jimmy Burrill and Eric Lefebvre scored 5 points and Zack Phillips, Avery Markham, Aiden DiPasquale and Brandon Gauthier showed their All Star presence with 4 points each. In the second game Chelmsford had no answer for Billerica and fell 62-42. Micah Migliorini had a very strong game with 10 points while Zack Phillips tossed in 8 points, Rocky Burke 6 points, Paul Malone 5 points and Aiden DiPasquale and Jake Coombes played solid with 4 points.

Chelmsford earned the right for a rematch with Billerica as they defeated Wesford on Sunday 46-31. Chelmsford led by only 2 points at halftime but held the host team to just 8 points in the second half. Center Paul Malone was dominant down low with 14 points and Rocky Burke excelled at the point with 10 points. Aiden DiPasquale had another strong game with 7 points while Benjamin Burke and Eric Lefebvre scored 4 points each.

Despite coming up short to Billerica in the championship game Chelmsford played outstanding basketball. In a thrilling first half Chelmsford trailed 27-24 and were as close as 7 late in the game but Billerica was too strong down the stretch. Zack Phillips was a giant in the center spot with 13 points while fellow big man Paul Malone scored 8 points. Aiden DiPasquale scored 7 points, Rocky Burke totaled 6 points, Brandon Gauthier had a number of boards and scored 4 points and Chris Lyons made some great passes and scored 3 points and Jimmy Burrill battled on the boards and scored 3 points as well.

Westford Tournament/Junior Boys: Chelmsford Grabs Second Place

The Chelmsford Junior Boys All Stars made a dramatic comeback in the Westford All Star Tournament but fell just short and lost to Billerica 50-44. Chelmsford trailed 26-18 at half time and was of danger of getting blown out as Billerica improved the margin to 14 in the second half.

Coach Keith Murray's squad did not go away easily as they forced a number of turnovers and with a few minutes to go cut the lead to two points but that was as close as they would get. Griffin Murray was sensational in defeat as he scored 11 points including two three pointers. Fellow guard Zack Dalton keyed the second half surge by scoring 9 of his 10 points. Rohan Kulkarni scored 8 points followed by 5 from Joseph Connell and 4 points each for Michael Monaghan and Kyle Yuan. Grant McEnaney pulled downed a number of rebounds and scored 2 points.

Chelmsford advanced to the finals by downing Westford 67-61. Chelmsford was in control throughout and led by as many as 17 points. Griffin Murray and Rohan Kulkarni combined for 31 points as Rohan scored 16 on a number of driving layups and Griffin came up big with 15 points. Kyle Yuan and Michael Monaghan each had 8 points while Geoffrey Sundstrom and Joseph Connell both scored 6 points. Daniel Dimirov and Zack Dalton aided the Chelmsford cause with 4 points while centers Simon Van Haren and Grant McEnaney were a major presence underneath.

Westford Tournament/Junior Boys: Chelmsford wins Championship



The Chelmsford Junior Boys played an outstanding all around game in winning the Westford All Star Tournament.

In the championship game Chelmsford dominated host Westford 56-25. Coaches Bob McClure and Brian Duffey had their club ready at the outset as Chelmsford's zone defense forced numerous turnovers and they led 12-1 and never looked back. Center Delaine Driscoll was a presence inside and scored 11 points while point guard Ryan Ashness controlled the offense and scored 9 points of which 6 came in the first half. Mike Misherfi and Dean Trahan both had some nice moves to the basket and finished with 6 points each while Center Jim Lynch had numerous rebounds and scored 5 points. Jayson Arnaud showed his athletic abilities on both ends of the court and finished with 4 points and guard Alex Hill put up 4 points. Dylan McClure added 3 points while Jack Hansbury and Josh Plunkett scored one basket each and John Loftus had one foul shot. Starter Jon Olsen played outstanding defense which aided the quick start by Chelmsford in a great team performance.

In the semi final game Chelmsford started slowly and held a slim 16-12 lead over Billerica at half time. In the second half Chelmsford got the nerves out of their system and went on to a 42-31 victory. Delaine Driscoll was the dominant player on the court as he scored 19 points. His fellow center James Lynch was also outstanding in scoring 8 points. Jayson Arnaud scored 4 points, Dean Trahan 3 points and 2 points each for Ryan Ashness, Dylan McCulre, Ryan Loftus and Josh Plunkett.

2010 TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Cadet Boys Team First Place Champions!



Chelmsford faced off against Westford in their first game in the tournament on Saturday. Westford took the early lead with an 18 to 13 advantage at the half. In the second half, Chelmsford persevered and chipped away at the Westford lead with Nick Spinale strong at the boards and contributing 10 points. Point guard Griffin Murray found the zone and put 8 points on the board with aggressive breaks for lay ups. Power forwards Joe Connell, George Cole, and Mike Monaghan spread the lead for Chelmsford with 7, 6, and 4 points, respectively. Chelmsford ended the game and earned their berth in the Championship game with a 45 to 35 victory over Westford.

On Sunday morning, Chelmsford met Billerica for the Championship. Billerica came on in a storm with an 8 to 0 lead over Chelmsford. Getting the scoring started, Todd Pecora, Zach Dalton, and Rohan Kulkarni each contributed 2 points to end the first half with Chelmsford facing a daunting 19 to 7 deficit to Billerica. Chelmsford regrouped at the half and built momentum aided by 4 points from Andrew Thayer and 2 each from Josh Dean and Griffin Murray, enabling Chelmsford to cut Billerica's lead to 25 to 22 with 39 seconds left in the game and a Chelmsford victory in question with center Nick Spinale toughing out a damaging blow at the boards. A Billerica foul sent Duncan Dean to the free throw line where he sunk 2 to bring the game within one. On a press in the final seconds, Zach Dalton stole the ball to feed to Joe Connell for a lay up for 2 and Chelmsford's first lead of the game at 26 to 25 with 20 seconds remaining. Chelmsford's pressure in the back court led to another steal from Duncan Dean with a feed to Zach Dalton who was fouled and led to the free throw line where he sunk 1. Chelmsford's tight defense held off Billerica's final drive and sealed Chelmsford's heart and soul 27 to 25 championship victory in this year's Westford All Star Tournament!

Junior Boys 2010 Team Takes Third Place

The Chelmsford Junior Boys earned 3rd placed in the Westford Tournament with an impressive win in the consolation game over Tyngsboro 57-35. In the opening game Chelmsford started strong against Billerica but could not keep up against their talented rivals as they fell 69-40. Matt Brown (Duke) led Chelmsford with 12 points. Zack Gareri had a solid game with 8 points while Michael Hohrath scored 6 points and David Crocker picked up 4 points. In the game against Tyngsboro, Chelmsford made some great passes and played solid defense. All 11 players scored in the game with Matt Brown (Uconn) leading the way with 10 points. Dan Martel had some nice inside moves for 8 points Center Noah Psilopoulos controlled the boards and scored 6 points while guard's Mike Merna had 7 points and Steven O'Meara and Mark Keller contributed 6 points. Michael Hohrath added 4 points while solo buckets went to Luke Bellone, Mark Albee, David Crocker and Matt Brown (Duke).

Junior Boys 2009 Team Takes Second Place

In the double elimination Westford Tournament the Chelmsford Junior Boys came in second place with an impressive 73-60 victory over Westford. This came after dropping the first contest the day before 61-53 after leading at half time 25-21. Shawn Callahan and Blake Whitehouse led the scoring attack with 10 points each while Jacob Ashley controlled the boards and scored 7 points. In the victory, Zack Warnock was outstanding with 18 points while Blake Whitehouse put up 13 points on some great drives to the hoop and Jacob Ashley added 10 points. Dan Nolan came up big with 8 points followed by 6 points each from Nick Cain and Colin Cleary. Shawn Callahan, Mark Sousa and Patrick Landrigan each had 4 points. In the championship game Billerica was too strong for Chelmsford as they coasted to a 75-36 victory. Blake Whitehouse, Jacob Ashley and Zack Warnock each had 6 points while Joe LaFreniere picked up 5 points, Kyle Smith tossed in 4 points and Johnny Corbett and Nick Cain had 3 points.

2008 TOURNAMENT RESULTS


Junior Boys Team



Chelmsford took third place in the Westford Tournament as they fell to Westford in the semi final game 62-48. Chelmsford was only down by 2 points with a little over 2 minutes to go but Westford scored the games last 12 points. Pat McLaughlin led Chelmsford with 11 points. Mike Wilkins was also stellar in defeat with 7 points and David DeDonato scored 6 points.

In the consolation game Chelmsford played an outstanding first half in downing Hudson, NH 63-53. Chelmsford led 30-17 in the first half and actually had the lead up to 20 points. Pat McLaughlin was outstanding in the post scoring 15 points. Point Guard David DeDonato and Evan Lefebvre scored 8 points apiece. Cody Nazzaro scored 7 points, Josh Lovas scored 6, Derek Hill had 5 points, Ryan Decoste and Mason Trubey helped out with 4 points, Tom Murphy scored 3 points Tanner Houle had a bucket and Alec McCabe had one foul shot. Chelmsford also received contributions from Mike Wilkins and Jeff Falco.
