Chelmsford 5th Grade Girls Basketball Team Wins 2 Tournament Championships
The Chelmsford 5th grade girls basketball travel team capped off a very successful season by winning their playoff tournament championship with wins over Tewksbury, Stoneham and Lowell. The girls previously won the 5th grade division of the Border Wars Tournament in Plaistow, NH. Chelmsford finished the season with a 23-9 overall record.

North Andover "March Madness" Tournament
On March 19-21, the Chelmsford Girls 8B Travel Team wrapped up their season with three games in the North Andover "March Madness" Tournament. On Friday night, the Lions held off a late Wakefield surge in a 43-41 victory. Chelmsford started slow, but pulled ahead for good with Cassidy Tyros, Lauren Kelley, Katelyn Burke, Lilie Whalen, Emily O'Neill and Corianna Wade leading the offensive attack. Jillian Lattimore, Mary Lupoli, Nikki Bettinelli and Jen Chamberlain played scrappy defense to secure the win. The Saturday game vs. Lowell was frustrating to the Lions, as Lowell used their height to control the boards and a 45-31 outcome. Katelyn Burke and Lauren Kelley led the scoring with 6 each, while Cassidy Tyros ran the offense well. Mary Lupoli, Emily O'Neill and Jillian Lattimore rebounded well, and Jen Chamberlain had an assist. Nikki Bettinelli, Corianna Wade and Lilie Whalen each played solid D in the loss. The third game on Sunday also ended in a loss, this time to a talented North Reading squad. Lauren Kelley tossed in 12 points, while Jen Chamberlain, Cassidy Tyros, Katelyn Burke and Lilie Whalen passed the ball well. Jillian Lattimore, Mary Lupoli and Kelley led the rebounding, and Corianna Wade and Nikki Bettinelli hustled on defense. Emily O'Neill and Michelle Robidas were nursing injuries, but were on hand to cheer on the Lions. Overall, the Girls 8B Travel Team proved to be a tough group and improved greatly as the season progressed. All of the coaches and parents are proud of these girls and wish them luck as they move on to high school next fall.
Chelmsford 32, Reading 29
The Chelmsford Girls 8B Travel Team won a tight contest over a skilled Reading squad by a score of 32-29 on Saturday. Lauren Kelley was again on target from 3 point land hitting three and leading all scorers with 11 points. Also scoring were Jillian Lattimore (6), Emily O'Neill (4), Lilie Whalen (4), Cassidy Tyros (3), Mary Lupoli (2) and Corianna Wade (2). The defense was strong as always led by Lattimore and Tyros, while Lupoli, O'Neill and Kelley were the leading rebounders. Katelyn Burke, Jen Chamberlain, Nikki Bettinelli and Kelley each had blocked shots and showed hustle, while Lattimore, Wade, Lupoli, Whalen, Tyros, Kelley, Lupoli and O'Neill each had assists. Chelmsford now heads into the postseason with lots of confidence
Stoneham 45 - Chelmsford 43
After roaring back from an 8 point halftime deficit, the Chelmsford Girls 8B Travel Team couldn't hold off a tough Stoneham team in a 45-43 loss on Sunday. Lauren Kelley and Katelyn Burke led the offense with 18 and 10 points respectively. Also scoring were Nikki Bettinelli (4), Emily O'Neil (4), Jillian Lattimore (3), Cassidy Tyros (2) and Corianna Wade (2). Chelmsford struggled moving the ball on offense, but had a strong game at the line by making 12 free throws. Stoneham was aggressive on the boards, but the outmanned Chelmsford squad fought hard for rebounds led by Wade and Jen Chamberlain. The defense was led by O'Neil, Burke, Tyros and Kelley, while strong hustle was shown by Bettinelli, Wade, Lattimore and Chamberlain. Mary Lupoli and Michelle Robidas cheered on the girls while resting their injured knees.
Chelmsford 37, Fidelity House 27
The Chelmsford Girls 8B Travel Team pulled away in the second half at Fidelity House in Arlington on Saturday, winning 37-27. The Lions had a well balanced attack with everyone scoring and hustling well on defense. Corrianna Wade and Katelyn Burke led the way on offense with 7 and 6 points respectively. Cassidy Tyros, Lilie Whalen and Lauren Kelley had 4 each, Mary Lupoli and Emily O'Neil had 3 each, while Jen Chamberlain, Jillian Lattimore and Nikki Bettinelli each had a basket. Handling the ball well were Tyros, Whalen, Kelley, Lupoli and Chamberlain, while Lattimore, O'Neil, Lupoli, Kelley and Tyros passed well, while Bettinelli, Chamberlain, Burke and Wade had steals.
Chelmsford 42, Malden 40
Lauren Kelley's basket in double overtime gave the Chelmsford Girls 8B Travel Team a hard fought 42-40 win over a tough Malden team on Sunday. Kelley also made three 3 pointers for the Lions, while Cassidy Tyros led all scorers with 12 points. Also scoring in this back and forth affair were Mary Lupoli (4), Corrianna Wade (4), Nikki Bettinelli (3), Jillian Lattimore (2), Emily O'Neil (2), Lilie Whalen (2) and Katelyn Burke (2). Kelley, Whalen and Lattimore rebounded well and had blocks, while strong defense was shown by Jen Chamberlain, Tyros, Lupoli and Whalen. The Lions hustled all game long, including Tyros, Burke, O'Neil, Whalen.
