2011-12 Season Game Summaries

Week #8

Boston College 24 - Pittsburgh 19
BC got off to a great start and held on to surprise Pittsburgh 24-19. The Eagles led 6-0 after the first quarter and 14-2 at halftime. Pittsburgh closed to within three points after three quarters as Rohan Kulkarni took charge scoring 13 of his 15 points. BC kept its poise and got a huge basket from Dylan Caotes with 45 seconds to go to give them a 5 point lead that Pittsburgh could not overcome. Abdul Shah led Boston College with 6 points. Joseph Connell tallied 5 points and Coates and Shane Hok scored 4 points each to give the Eagles their 5th win against 3 losses while Pittsburgh suffered only their second loss.

Ohio State 28 - Syracuse 23
Syracuse gave Ohio State all they could handle but it was not enough to give them their first loss as the Buckeyes prevailed 28-23. This was a close contest through as going into the last quarter it was tied at 19. Ohio State took a 3 point lead with 3:30 to go with Craig Salmi hitting a big 3 pointer from the corner. In the last segment OSU outscored the Cuse by 2 points for the 5 point margin of victory. Salmi led Ohio State with 9 points while point guard Brendan Mann added 7 points and Steve Quigley had 4 points. Kyle Yuan led all scorers as he kept the Orange in the game with 13 points. George Cole put up 6 points and Andrew Thayer scored 4 points as Syracuse fell to 6-2.

Memphis 39 - Duke 35
After winning last week Memphis continued its winning ways in downing Duke 39-35. The Tigers were in control at halftime as they led 22-11. Duke however staged a comeback as they got to within 5 points after three quarters and 1 point with 3:30 to go but Memphis scored 10 points in the final segment to get their second win of the year. The Brady Ryan Michael Perez combo was too tough to stop. Perez scored 12 points while Ryan scored 11 points. Anthony DeChiara also had a strong game with 6 points. Karthik Lyer continued his strong play as he scored 16 points to lead Duke. Jacob Galvin had 7 of his 8 points in the second half and Brian Tiano also played very well with 6 points.

North Carolina 38 - Kentucky 25
North Carolina snapped their 3 game losing streak with a convincing 38-25 victory over Kentucky. Kentucky led 14-10 at the break but got outscored 16-5 in the third quarter. The Tar Heels received great guard play as Michael Scaplen scored 10 points, Matt LoPresti 9 points and James LoPresti scored 5 points. Chris Hibbard helped under the boards and scored 6 points while Center Simon Van Haren had some big blocks and scored 4 points. Ryan Schweizer had his best offensive game of the year for Kentucky with 10 points while Griffin Murray scored 6 points and Hunter Ruszkowski did a good job on the boards and scored 5 points.

Arizona 40 - UConn 27
Arizona outscored UConn by 9 points in the second quarter and went on to down the Huskies 36-19. Erik MacDonald led the way with 10 points followed by 8 from Daniel Dimitrov and 6 from Donovan Loew. Christopher Landry and Ryan Johnson also helped the Wildcats improve to 5-3 with 4 points each. Grant McEnaney led UConn with 8 points and Robert Crowley scored 6 points.

Week #6

Memphis 45 - UConn 39
Memphis won their first game of the season in a hard fought 45-39 battle over UConn. The Tigers got out off to a strong start as they led 14-6 after one quarter and 20-13 at the break. UConn however edged closer as they outscored the winners 16-11 in the third but the duo of Michael Perez and Michael Monaghan were too much for the Huskies. Perez scored 6 of his game high 23 points in the final quarter while Monaghan also had 6 points in Q4 and wound up with 10 points. Brady Ryan had all of his 6 points in the first half and Anthony DeChiara put up 4 points and Nick Coppa scored one basket. For UConn, Grant McEnaney was tough down low with 14 points while Ben Jordan had a very strong game with 10 points and Jacob Burke scored 5 points followed by 4 points for Nick Krupyshev.

Boston College 37 - North Carolina 31
In a battle of 3-3 teams BC prevailed over ACC foe North Carolina with a 37-31 win. The Eagles had two players in double figures as Darrenlee Hok and Joseph Connell each scored 10 points. Shane Hok scored 7 points and Abudal Shah added 6 as BC improved to 4-3. Josh Sogade had a strong game for North Carolina with 8 points and James LoPresti also put up 8 points while his brother Matt scored 7 points.

Syracuse 25 - Kentucky 20
It may not have been great offense but Syracuse won their 6th game of the season after downing Kentucky 25-20. The Cuse led throughout with the difference being the third quarter. The Orange led by 5 at halftime and then improved that margin to 12 points after three quarters. Kyle Yuan led Syracuse with 9 points. Center Mitch Bottomley scored 6 points while Erik Merrill, Ethan Hicks and George Cole each scored 3 points. Griffin Murray was the top scorer for Kentucky with 6 points. Derek Tyros, Nick Glekas and Derek Koechlin had 4 points apiece.

Pittsburgh 50 - Arizona 42
Arizona had a strong offensive game with 42 points but they could not match Pittsburgh�s offense as the boys from the steel city scored 50 points to improve to 6-1 on the season. Pittsburgh led by only one point with 3:30 to go but outscored the Wildcats 11-4 in the final segment. Rohan Kulkarni led the assault with 17 points. Ashwin Krishnaswamy had a number of fast break layups for 10 points. Devin Fricano and Ryan Wilome both scored 6 points. Donovan Loew had a stellar day for Arizona with 18 points. Dan Dimitrov and Erik MacDonald each had 8 points.

Ohio State 48 - Duke 34
Ohio State led Duke 17-4 and it looked like game set and match. Duke had other ideas as they had a gret second quarter and trailed by only two at halftime 25-23. The undefeated Buckeyes however got strong play in the second half and wound up with a 48-34 victory. Brendan Mann had a great game with 14 points to lead OSU. Craig Salmi and Phil Kimera both scored 10 points and Geoff Sundstrom scored 8 points. Zack Dalton hit a number of outside shots to lead Duke with 21 points while Katrik Lyer scored 9 points.

Week #4

Kentucky 26 - Duke 24
In the game of the day Kentucky held on to get past Duke 26-24. It looked like it was going to be a walk in the park for Kentucky as they led 6-0 after one quarter and 12-2 at halftime. Duke got their offense going in the third but still trailed 18-9. With one minute left to play Duke got within one point but Kentucky guard Griffin Murray scored to give the Wildcats a 3 point lead. The lead was quickly erased as Zack Dalton hit a 3 pointer to tie the game as 24. Murray however could not be stopped on this day as with 35 seconds to go he hit a driving layup to give Kentucky the win. Murray finished with 12 points while Nick Glekas came up big with 6 points and Ryan Schweizer scored 4 points. Solo buckets went to Derek Kocechlin and Nick Bianco while Derek Tyros, Ryan Lindsay, David Krieger, Kietel Toussaint and Hunter Ruszkowski also played outstanding defense to improve Kentucky to 2-2 on the season. Zack Dalton and Katrik Lyer each had 7 points for Duke while Syed Ali scored 6 and Jacob Galvin added 4 points.

Pittsburgh 38 - UConn 23
Pittsburgh outscored UConn 16-6 in the second quarter in route to their 38-23 victory. Rohan Kulkarni and Devin Fricano led the Panther attack as Kulkarni put up 14 points while Fricano had a strong game with 12 points. Noah Johnson also helped Pitt improve to 3-1 as he scored 4 points. Michael Shea led UConn with 6 points while Benjamin Jordan scored 5 points.

Ohio State 39 - Boston College 20
The overall balance of Ohio State was too much for Boston College as the Buckeye’s took an easy 39-20 win. OSU led only by 4 after one quarter but at halftime it 17-8 and the game was never in doubt. Phil Kimera had his strongest offensive game of the year with 11 points. Craig Salmi was also impressive with 10 points while Jeff Sundstrom had 7 points and Brendan Mann scored 6 points. Joseph Connell had a strong second half scoring 6 of his 7 points to lead BC while Abdul Shah scored 4 points.

Syracuse 37 - Arizona 29
The second quarter was the difference in Syracuse downing Arizona as they outscored the Wildcats by 10 and ended up with a 37-29 victory. Andrew Thayer had 4 of his 9 points in the second stanza to lead the Orangemen. Kyle Yuan also had a big second Q as he scored 5 including a 3 pointer and wound up with 7 points. George Cole also scored 7 points while Ethan Hicks scored 6 and Erik Merrill added 4 points. Donovan Loew, Daniel Dimitrov and Brandon Bianco each had 5 points for Arizona while Jain Arpit and Ryan Johnson scored 4 points each.

North Carolina 32 - Memphis 22
After an opening season loss North Carolina won their third in a row by downing Memphis 32-22. Memphis started strong as they led 4-1 after one but at halftime the Tar Heels turned it around and led 13-7 at halftime. The LoPresti brothers had strong games as Matt scored 7 while James added 6 points. Michael Scaplen also had 6 points while Chris Hibbard scored 4 points. Memphis was paced by guard Ryan Brady with 5 points while forward Michael Perez also netted 5 points.

Week #3

Ohio State 42 – Kentucky 24
Ohio States appeared to be in for a challenge against Kentucky as they led 11-8 at halftime. The Buckeye’s made it look easy in the second half as they outscored the Wildcats by 15 points and scored a 42-24 to remain undefeated. A number of players had solid games with OSU as guard Brendan Mann scored 8 points, Steve Quigley and Phil Kimera had 7 points and Mike Iovino added 6 points. Nick Glekas had a strong game for Kentucky with 12 points.

Pittsburgh 30 – Duke 25
Although Pittsburgh downed Duke 30-25 this was all about the Blue Devils never giving up. Pittsburgh scored the game’s first 16 points and led 26-9 after three quarters. Duke however made a game off it but there was just not enough time left on the clock to overcome a disastrous start. Kartik Lyer scored 11 points for Duke while Jacob Galvin added 6 and Tyle Fleming scored 4 points. Rohan Kulkarni scored 6 of his 12 points in the first quarter to lead Pittsburgh. Sebastian Abata had a strong game with 6 points and Devin Fricano and Connor O’Keefe had two baskets apiece.

North Carolina 39 – UConn 25
North Carolina outscored UConn by 9 in the second quarter in route to a 39-25 victory. Center Simon Var Haren led the victors with 9 points. James and Matt LoPresti each scored 6 points while guard Michael Scaplen also scored 6 points. Benjamin Jordan and Matthew Vignola each had 7 points for UConn.

Arizona 25 – Memphis 23
Arizona improved to 2-1 with a hard fought 25-23 victory over Memphis. Daniel Dimitrov led the winners with 8 points. His Wildcat teammates Donovan Loew and Ryan Johnson each scored 4 points. Michael Monaghan, Michael Perez, Nick Coppa and Brady Ryan each scored 4 points for Memphis.

Syracuse 23 –Boston College 14
In a very aggressive defensive battle Syracuse got to 2-1 with a 23-14 win over Boston College. The Orangemen led throughout and pulled away in the final quarter by outscoring BC 7-1. Kyle Yuan had a solid game for the Cuse with 6 point and Andrew Thayer and Steven Moore each scored 4 points. Darrenlee Hok had an outstanding game for BC with 8 points and Abdual Shah scored 4 points.

Week #2

Ohio State 26 – Arizona 18
Ohio State is the only undefeated team in the Junior Boys Division after the Buckeye’s downed Arizona 26-18. The second quarter was the difference as OSU led 8-6 after one before outscoring the Wildcats 10-2 in the second quarter. Jeff Sundstrom and Phil Kimera led way with 8 points each. Point guard Brendan Mann scored 4 points and Craig Salmi, Seve Quigley and Kevin Tran contributed two points apiece while Kenny Blair and Paul Mayorski played outstanding defense. Donvan Loew led the cold shooting Wildcats with 6 points and Ryan Johnson scored 4 points as Arizona fell to 1-1.

North Carolina 34 – Duke 28
North Carolina outscored Duke 11-3 in the second quarter and that was the story in their 34-28 win over Duke. Matt LoPresti was outstanding in the win as he led the Tar Heels with 13 points. Josh Sogade also had a strong game with 8 points followed by 6 from Simon Van Haren, 4 points for Ryan Berube and 3 for Michael Scaplen. Ben Dillman, James LoPresiti, Ross Torrigian and Chris Hibbard were also instrumental in ensuring North Carolina got their first win of the year. Zack Dalton got off to a slow start but finished with 14 points for Duke while Jacob Galvin tossed in 6 points as the Blue Devils dropped to 1-1.

Boston College 35 – Memphis 23
After looking sluggish in week one BC was all business in their second contest as they had a comfortable 35-23 victory over winless Memphis. BC led 8-1 after one quarter and 21-9 at the break and never looked back. Joseph Connell had strong games with 7 points to lead the Eagles. BC got plenty of support as Abdul Shan tossed in 6 points and Shane Hok and his brother Darrenlee each scored had 5 points while Michael Marchant also put up 5 points. Dylan Coates and John Barry each had two baskets for 4 points while Emil Zulawnik and Ronan McCall also made several fine plays to help their club to their first victory. Brady Ryan, Michael Monaghan and Nathan Sullivan each scored 6 points for Memphis.

Pittsburgh 32 – Syracuse 17
Simply put Pittsburgh was too good on Saturday as they waltzed past Syracuse 32-17 for their first win of the season. Rohan Kulkarni showed off his athleticism with some great drives to the hoop and led the Panthers with 14 points. Ryan Willome had a strong game with 12 points. Pittsburgh also received great support from Ashwin Krishnasswamy, Connor O’Keefe, Nathaniel Cupp, Drew Donoghue and Devin Fricano. Mitch Bottomley, George Cole and Steven Moore each scored 4 points as Syracuse dropped to 1-1.

UConn 34 – Kentucky 17
UConn led Kentucky 12-6 at halftime and then outscored the Wildcats 10-3 in the third in route to a 34-17 victory. Center Grant McEvaney led the way with numerous rebounds and 10 points. Thomas Mouraview and Benjamin Jordan had big games with 6 points each while Michael Shea and Matthew Vignola scored 4 points apiece while Robert Crowely, Zackery Dion, Nick Krupshey and Jacob Burke also played well to help lead UConn to even their record at 1-1. Kietel Toussaint led Kentucky with 6 points and Nick Glekas added 5 points as Kentucky fell to 1-1.

Week #1

Ohio State 28 – Pittsburgh 27
In the days closest content Ohio State took a thrilling 28-27 opening game victory over Pittsburgh. Craig Salmi’s driving layup with a little over a minute to go propelled the Buckeye’s to the win. Salmi led OSU with 10 points followed by 7 from guard Brendan Mann and 5 points for Jeff Sundstrom. Ohio State also received solid contributions from Eddy Ding, Steve Quigley, Phil Kimera and Kevin Tran. Rohan Kulkarni led Pittsburgh with 14 points while Devin Fricano had a strong game with 10 points.

Syracuse 31 – North Carolina 20
After trailing 23-14 with 7 minutes to go North Carolina closed to within 4 points of Syracuse going into the final 3:30. The Orangemen finished the game in style as they outscored the Tar Heels 7-0 in the final segment to take a 31-20 victory. George Cole led the victors with 12 points while Kyle Yuan put up 6 and Mike Carroll scored 4 points. Simon Van Haren led NC with 6 points and Michael Scaplen, Ben Dillman and Jay LoPresti scored 4 points apiece.

Kentucky 39 – Memphis 29
Kentucky and Memphis were locked in a good one at half time as the Memphis led 18-17. Kentucky however took over in the third as they blanked Memphis 14-0 in route to a 39-29 victory. Derek Tyros scored 6 of his 8 points in the pivotal third quarter while Griffin Murray led the victors with 10 points. Nick Glekas also played a strong game with 8 points. Mike Perez had a solid debut for Memphis with 9 points and Nathan Sullivan and Michael Monaghan scored 6 points each.

Arizona 35 – Boston College 21
Arizona scored the game’s first 8 points and never looked back as they scored an impressive 35-21 victory over Boston College. Arizona used their speed effectively by scoring on a number of transition baskets with Erik MacDonald leading the charge with 10 points. Ryan Johnson had a strong opening game with 8 points and Alex Poulain contributed 6 points. Arpit Jain was very strong on the board for the victors. Darrenlee Hok scored 5 for the cold shooting Eagles and Shane Hok and Joseph Connell had two buckets apiece.

Duke 37 – UConn 19
Duke held a slim 20-17 lead after three quarters over UConn but the Huskies scored only two points in the 4’th quarter and the Blue Devils took an impressive 37-19 victory. Zack Dalton was outstanding for Duke with 9 points in the final 3:30 and 21 for the game. Kartik Lyer also had a strong game with 6 points while Tyler Fleming, Tyler Herlihy, Jacob Galvin, Brian Hollan and Eric Moore scored two points each. Brian Tiano, Ben Carey and Syed Ali also played well for Duke. Grant McEvaney led UConn with 8 points and Jacob Burke scored 7 points.
