2009-10 Season Game Summaries
Week #9
North Carolina 38 – Kentucky 32
North
Carolina played their best game of the season and upset Kentucky
38-32. The Tar Heels trailed 28-22 after three quarters and
closed the gap to two points with 3:30 to play. In the final
segment NC outscored the Wildcats 8-2 to earn their 3rd win of the
season. All Star Zack Gareri scored 12 of his game high 16 points in
the final quarter to lead his club to the comeback win. Tim
Zachert scored 7 points including a 3 pointer. Chris Craig scored
5 points and Patrick O’Keefe added 4 points. Solo baskets went to
Phillip Danek, Michael Wang and Michael O’Keefe. Austin Ginett
and Bailey Morton also played well for North Carolina. Brendan
Flaherty led Kentucky with 12 points while All Star Luke Bellone scored
7 and Jack Scaplen had 6 points.
Boston College 41 – California 40
BC
led California 26-13 at halftime and appeared they wre going to have an
easy win. The lead however dipped to 6 points with 3:30 to go and
thanks to Michael Koechlin’s basket with 1:00 the Eagles held on to a
41-40 victory. Tyler Perry continued his outstanding offensive
play as he scored 14 points of which 8 came in the second
quarter. All Star Michael Hohrath scored 9 points and Matt
Loiselle and Matt Majeau both had solid games with 6 points. All Star
Dan Martel led California with 11 points while Matty Clauson scored all
of his 10 points in the second half.
Duke 22 – Michigan State 19
It
may not have been the prettiest game of all time but Duke will take it
as got by Michigan State 22-19. Duke led 12-5 at the break and
20-12 after 3 only to see Michigan State get back in the game.
The Spartans however could not get over the hump and Duke improved to
5-4 while Michigan State dropped to 4-5. Alex Hill led the
victors with 6 points while Dylan McClure scored 4 points. Travis
Ricardo scored 8 points to lead Michigan State.
UConn 42- Kansas 34
UConn
continued its winning ways by defeating Kansas 42-34. The
undefeated Huskies led 28-15 at halftime and while Kansas hung in, the
game was never in doubt. All Star Matt Brown led his team with 10
points followed by 9 from sharp shooting Alex Palermo and 8 from Ryan
Loftus. Jacob White had another strong game for Kansas with
9 points while Mike Russo scored 8, Evan Smith had 7 and Sujal Pandit
added 6 points.
Villanova 50 - Texas 27
Texas
had no answer for Noah Psilopoulos or Quinn DiPasquale as the
center/guard combo led Villanova to a 50-27 victory. DiPasquale
scored 16 points of which 12 came in the second half. Psilopoulos
did his damage in the first half as the All Star center scored 14 of
his 16 points before the break. All Star Mark Keller also had a
strong game with 9 points while Devon Sittler scored 5 and Connor
Merrill added 4 points. Texas All Star guard Michael Merna was
sensational in defeat as he scored 20 points.
Purdue 41 – Syracuse 30
Michael
DeDonato scored 14 points to lead Purdue past Syracuse 41-30.
Colin Wang aided the win with 8 points while Romi Elfakh and William
Cassells each scored 6 points. Quinn Jackson led Syracuse with 9
points while center Joe Dowd scored 5 points and Omkar Bhat and Jeff
D’Auria had 4 points.
Week #8
UConn 42 – California 31
UConn
improved to 8-0 with a 42-31 win over a gutsy California club as the
Golden Bears gave the victors all they could handle. The Huskies
were rolling along as they led 24-10 at halftime. California
turned in around in the third by outscoring UConn 15-4. All Star
center Dan Martel keyed the surge as he scored 8 of his 14 points in
the third quarter. Despite the great comeback UConn kept its
poise and had a strong 4’Th quarter to stay undefeated. All Star
Matt Brown led all scorers with 17 points of which 7 came in the last
3:30 of the game. Alex Palermo had a great game with 12 points
while Sean Doherty was solid with 8 points. Matt Clauson scored
10 points for California while Tim LeMasuier contributed 7 points.
Kentucky 40 – Purdue 30
Kentucky
stayed red hot (5-3 on the season) with a 40-30 win over undermanned
Purdue. (Missing two key players) Kentucky trailed 15-12 at the break
but then outscored the Boilermakers 16-6 in the third quarter.
Joshua Plunkett scored six of his 9 points in the second half to lead
the Wildcats. Center Brendan Flaherty and Jack Scaplen each
scored 8 points while Steve Ferreira scored 5 points. Colin Wang
was the top man for Purdue with 9 points while Alex Anoli scored 7
points.
Texas 21 – Duke 20
After
a slow start Texas won it’s third in a row to improve to 4-4 in a hard
fought 21-20 victory over Duke. Matt Daly scored the winning
basket on a driving layup with one minute to go. Drew Harmer had
an outstanding game for the streaking Longhorns as he scored 12
points. Alex Hill led Duke with 7 points.
Villanova 32 – Michigan State 29
In
a close battle all day long Villanova prevailed over Michigan State
32-29. Michigan State had no answer for Noah Psilopoulos as the
All Star center scored 16 points. Devon Sittler added 6 points,
Quinn DiPasquale scored 5 points and Sean McCartin scored 4
points. Ian McGinty had another strong outing and scored 6 points
for Michigan State while Tim Keene also scored 6 and Travis Ricardo
added 5 points.
North Carolina 22 – Syracuse 16
North
Carolina picked up its second win of the year by downing Syracuse
22-16. The Tar Heels held a slim 14-13 lead after three quarters
before outscoring Syracuse 7-1 in the first 3:30 of the final
section. All Star Zack Gareri had 13 of his 15 points in the
second half with some strong inside moves. Bailey Morton scored 3
points while Tim Zackert and Philip Danek had 2 points each.
Omkar Bhat led Syracuse with 6 points.
Boston College 42 – Kansas 30
High
scoring Boston College was too much for Kansas as they took a 42-30
victory and BC is now 4-4 on the season. Tyler Perry was the hot
man for the Eagles with 18 points. Center Jason Arnau ripped off
12 points while All Star Michael Hohrath scored 8 points. Jacob
White led Kansas with 13 points and Evan Smith scored 6 points.

CYBL Weekly Summaries
Ryan Loftus scored as the buzzer sounded and UConn stayed unbeaten by defeating Purdue 34-32
UConn 34 – Purdue 32
UConn
remained undefeated at 7-0 as Ryan Loftus scored with no time left as
the Huskies took a thrilling 34-32 victory over 5-2 Purdue. UConn
led 26-24 with 3:30 to go but Will Cassels scored with 45 seconds left
to give Purdue a 2 point lead. David Crocker scored his third
basket of the final session with 30 seconds to go to tie the contest at
32 all. UConn applied great defensive pressure and with only a
couple of seconds to go Loftus drove to the hoop to score the game
winner. All Star David Crocker had a great all around game and
led his club with 10 points. Sean Doherty and Shawn Lefebvre each
had 6 points. Ryan Loftus and Nick Scriavani had 4 points and All
Star Matt Brown added 3 points. UConn also received great
contributions from David Salomaa, John Loftus, Ben Ferris and Alex
Palermo. Will Cassels was outstanding in defeat as he scored 15
points. Romi Elfakh netted 6 points and Michael Deangelis scored
5 while Tim O’Neil had 4 points.
Kansas 38 – Syracuse 26
Kansas
picked up their first win of the season and did so in impressive
fashion as they downed Syracuse 38-26. The victors led by 6 after
3 quarters and put the game away early in the 4’Th as they outscored
Syracuse 8-2 going into the final segment. AJ MacGillivary ,
Jacob White and All Star Mark Albee led their club with 8 points
each. Evan Smith had a solid game with 6 points and Tim
Miragliuolo scored 4 points. Solo buckets went to Denis Delaflor, Sujal
Pandit. Mike Russo. Matt Delaflor and Taylor O’Brien
also played well to help Kansas to their first win. Syracuse All
Star Steve O’Meara led all scorers with 14 points while Justin Plausky
scored 8 points.
Villanova 29 – California 22
After
struggling last week Villanova was very impressive in downing a strong
California team 29-22. The Wildcats got out of the gates early as
they led 11-2 after one quarter. All Star center Noah Psilopoulos keyed
the fast start with 7 of his 11 points in the first frame. Sean
McCartin was impressive with 8 points and Quinn DiPasquale added 4
points. California All Star Daniel Martel led his club with 8
points followed by 5 from Tim LeMasurier scored 5 and Cam Clancy picked
up 4 points.
Texas 25 – Michigan State 24
Texas
won their second in a row with a thrilling 25-24 win over Michigan
State. Joshua Marcotte sank the winning foul shot with 8 seconds to go
to improve the Longhorns to 3-4. Marcotte finished with 9 points
followed by 6 from All Star Mike Merna and 4 from Drew Harmer.
Travis Ricardo led Michigan State with 8 points and Aman Sheikh had all
7 of his points in the first half.
Boston College 28 – North Carolina 22
After
trailing 20-16 after 3 quarters BC outscored the Tar Heels 8-0 early in
the 4’th quarter as the Eagles took a hard earned 28-22 victory.
All Star Michael Hohrath keyed the surge and had a great last quarter
scoring 8 points and 12 overall. Matt Majeau had another strong
game with 10 points and Jason Arnau scored 4 points. North
Carolina All Star Zack Gareri was outstanding in a loosing cause with
13 points.
Kentucky 27 – Duke 17
Coming
off a close win last week the Wildcat’s took it up to another level
against Duke. With great press play from the Kentucky guards and
key blocks down low they held Duke to only 17 points. It was an
overall great team effort from Kentucky led by All Star guard Luke
Bellone (9 points) and Jack Scaplen (8 points). Kentucky also received
great contributions from Eric Mullane (4 points, 5 rebounds), Brendan
Flaherty (8 rebounds), and Josh Plunkett (4 points, 6 rebounds).
Steve Ferreira and Patrick Burrill played outstanding defense.
Alex Hill led Duke with 7 points.
Week #6
UConn 33 – Boston College 30
UConn remained undefeated but it took a great 4th quarter comeback in
their 33-30 victory over Boston College. BC led 21-13 at the break and
30-22 with 3:30 lef to go in the game. The Huskies played relentless
defense in the final segment as they forced a number of turnovers and
outscored the Eagles 11-0. Westford All Star Matt Brown scored 7 of his
game high 17 points in the last segment while Nick Scriavani and Ryan
Loftus also scored. Loftus had 5 points for the game while David
Crocker scored 6 points and John Loftus had 2 points. Tyler Perry led
BC with 11 points followed by 6 from Michael Koechlin and 5 from Matt
Hohrath.
Kentucky 29 – Michigan State 25
Kentucky made it to
the 500 mark for the season with an impressive 29-25 win over 4-2
Michigan State. Kentucky got off to a fast start as they led 11-3 after
one quarter and 17-5 at halftime. Michigan State got their game going
in the second half and actually took the lead in the final quarter.
Kentucky center Brendan Flaherty dashed any hopes of a Spartan comeback
as he hit two big baskets down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Flaherty scored 16 points while Joshua Plunkett had 3 points. Solo
baskets went to Steve Ferreira, Eric Mullane, Patrick Burrill, Jack
Scaplen and Luke Bellone. Austin Mitchell and Jared Kent also played
well for Kentucky. Tim Keene led Michigan State with 8 points followed
by 5 for Mike McKenna and 4 each for Ryan Taylor and Nick DeSilvio.
Texas 29 – Kansas 25
After a few close defeats Texas
was on the plus side this week as they nipped Kansas 29-25. This
contest was close throughout and the Longhorns received a number of
solid contributions. Joshua Marcotte led his team with 9 points while
Matt Daly also came up big with 8 points. Point guard Mike Merna scored
6 points and Alex Marcotte and Andrew Harmer had solo buckets. Kenny
Toussaint, Nick Manauto and Kevin Reidy also played well. Evan Smith
was outstanding in a loosing cause as he scored 10 points while Sujal
Pandit scored 4 points.
Purdue 25 – Villanova 16
Purdue took a 10-2 first
quarter lead over Villanova and went on to an easy 25-16 win. William
Cassels paced the Boilermaker attack with 8 points. Alex Anoli scored 6
points and Romi Elfakh and Kyle Bond scored 4 points with Colin Wang
getting one basket. Tim O’Neill and Richard Watson played strong
defense for t5-1 Purdue. Noah Psilopoulos had 5 points for Villanova
with Mark Keller and Fabio Tracana scoring 4 points each.
Duke 26 – Syracuse 23
Duke played an impressive
second half and downed Syracuse 26-23. The victors trailed 15-10 at
intermission before outscoring the Orangemen 7-2 in the third. Duke
eventually took the lead in the final quarter thanks to 3 baskets by
Matt Brown. Brown finished with 8 points while Ben Morrison and Alex
Hill each scored 6 points. Quinn Jackson had another strong game with
some great outside shooting and scored 8 points. Justin Plausky had 7
and Steve O’Meara scored 6 points.
California 26 – North Carolina 14
Austin Polce scored
8 points to lead California past North Carolina 26-14. Edward Dam aided
the victory with 6 points while Evan Lucey and Matt Clauson scored 4
points each. Zack Gareri led North Carolina with 10 points.
Week #5
Boston College 40 – Duke 35
After loosing a tight game
last week, Boston College was on the plus side this week in a thrilling
40-35 victory over Duke. Both teams played outstanding in this back and
forth contest. It was all tied at 34 going into the last 3:30 before
Brendan Carey scored 4 points in the last segment and Michael Hohrath
also scored for the Eagles. Carey had a stellar game for BC with 12
points. Tyler Perry and Jason Arnaud each had 10 points while Matt
Marjeau contributed 4 points and Joey Penn scored 2 points. Owen
Carpenter and Mitch Ferullo also played well to give BC their second
win of the year. Alex Hill led Duke with 11 points while Jeff You had a
solid game with 8 points and Matt Brown added 6 points.
UConn 41 – Syracuse 19
UConn stayed undefeated as
they had their way with undermanned Syracuse 41-19. David Crocker paced
the Husky attack with 10 points and he got plenty of support. Sean
Doherty and Ryan Loftus both scored 8 points. Alex Palermo hit his
weekly 3 pointer and scored 7 points while Matt Brown added 6 points.
UConn also received contributions from David Salomaa, John Loftus,
Shawn Lefebvre, Ben Ferris and Nick Scrivani. Quinn Jackson led
Syracuse with 8 points and Steve O’Meara scored 4 points.
Purdue 62 – Texas 31
After suffering its first loss
of the season last week Purdue took their frustrations out on Texas as
they ran over the Longhorns 62-31. Michael DeDonato led the onslaught
with 18 points of which 10 came in the second quarter. William Cassel
had a strong game with 16 points and Colin Wang scored 12 points.
Spencer Sutton added to the offensive explosion with 6 points while
Romi Elfakh added 4 points. Matt Daly led Texas with 13 point and Kevin
Reidy scored 8 points.
Michigan State 25 – North Carolina 18
North Carolina
hung tough with Michigan State but in the end the Spartans were too
tough as they prevailed 25-18. Travis Ricardo led his club with 8
points. Mike McKenna and Nick DeSilvio each scored 4 points. Zack
Gareri led NC with 6 points and Tim Zachert scored 4 points.
California 31 – Kansas 20
In a game in which
California was always in the lead the Golden Bears were good enough to
defeat a hustling and improving Kansas club 31-20. Center Dan Martel
led the victors with 10 points. Matty Clausen played a solid game and
scored 8 points while Tim LeMasuier added 5 points. Evan Smith and
Jacob White each had 6 points for Kansas.
Villanova 29 – Kentucky 25
In a tight defensive
battle Villanova got by Kentucky 29-25. Noah Psilopoulos and Quinn
DiPasquale each scored 6 points while Fabio Tracana and Sean McCartin
scored 4 points. Luke Bellone led Kentucky with 6 points and Austin
Kent and Jack Scaplen scored 4 points.
Week #4
Duke 22 - Purdue 20
Duke gave Purdue it’s first lost of
the season with a 22-20 victory as both teams are now 3-1. Duke took
control of the game in the second quarter when they outscored the
Boilermakers 10-0. Purdue closed to within 3 points going into the
final 3:30 but Alex Hill hit a 3 pointer for Duke to preserve the
victory. Ben Morrison led Duke with 6 points followed by 5 points from
Hill and 4 each from Dylan McClure and Matt Brown. Colin Wang and
William Cassels each had 6 for Purdue.
Villanova 34 - Boston College 32 (OT)
In the tale of
two halves Villanova had the comeback of the season in downing Boston
College in overtime 34-32. Boston College played a great first half as
they led 18-2 at the break. BC actually upped the lead to 18 points
going into the final quarter but Villanova scored 20 points in the
final quarter and held BC to only 2 points to send the game into
overtime and went on to win by 2 points in overtime. Center Noah
Psilopoulos led the charge with 14 points. Sean McCartin and Mark
Keller each had 6 points while Will Hulett and Fabio Tracana had 4
points apiece. Matt Marjeau had a strong game for BC with 10 points.
Tyler Perry came through with 6 points and Michael Kochlin, Michael
Hohrath and Brendan Carey each had 4 points.
California 34 - Kentucky 33
The cardiac kids from California had their second big comeback of the
season as they nipped Kentucky 34-33 after trailing by 12 points in the
second half. Tim Le Maserier keyed the comeback with 6 third quarter
points. Matt Clauson and Cam Clancy also had 6 points while Dan Martel,
Evan Lucey and Austin Polce scored 4 points. Jack Scaplen had his best
game of the season with 13 points and Luke Bellone scored 9 points.
North Carolina 30 - Kansas 18
North Carolina earned
their first victory of the season with a 30-18 win over Kansas. North
Carolina never trailed as they led 10-4 at halftime and 22-16 with 3:30
to go. Zack Garreri led the charge for the Tar Heels with 12 points.
Michael Wang scored 7 points while Chris Craig had 5 points, Patrick
O’Keefe had two baskets and Tim Zachert scored 2 points. Michael
O’Keefe, Phillip Danek and Bailey Morton all played great defense to
help NC to its first victory. Evan Smith led Kansas with 6 points while
AJ MacGillvary, Mark Albee and Mike Russo each scored 4 points.
UConn 30 - Texas 13
UConn remained undefeated as they
breezed past Texas. The Huskies played tight D as they held Texas to
only 3 points at halftime. On the offensive side Matt Brown led all
scorers with 13 points and Alex Palermo had 6 points including a 3
pointer. Alex Marcotte led Texas with 4 points.
Michigan State 21 - Syracuse 14
Michigan State broke
open a tight contest at halftime to down Syracuse 21-14. It was 8 all
at the break before the Orangemen outscored the Spartans 11-4 in the
third quarter. Tim Keene scored 6 points to lead the victors while
Traivs Ricardo scored 5 points and Nick DeSilvio scored 4 points. Quinn
Jackson, Jeff D’Auria and Steven O’Meara each scored 4 points for
Syracuse.
Week #3
Boston College 29 - Syracuse 27
Boston College picked up
their first win of the season with a thrilling 29-27 victory over
Syracuse. The Eagles, who had trouble scoring points in the first
couple of weeks got out to a quick start as they led 9-5 after one
quarter. Syracuse hung tough with BC and tied the game at 21 going into
the final quarter. The score was still tied going into the last 3:30
but Jason Arnau calmly sank two foul shots to propel BC to the win.
Arnau led his club with 8 points while Tyler Perry had 7 points.
Michael Hohrath had a strong game with 6 points while Matt Majeau also
had a solid game with 6 points. Brendan Carey had 2 points and the
Eagles got solid defensive contributions from Mitch Ferullo, Owen
Carpenter, Matt Loiselle and Michael Koechlin. Jeff D’Auria led
Syracuse with 6 points followed by 5 from Pat Lyons and Omkar Bhat.
Duke 33 - Villanova 23
Duke earned their second win
in a row and they knocked off previously undefeated Villanova 33-23.
The Blue Devils led 14-12 at the break and then outscored the Wildcats
10-4 in the third quarter to take control of the game. Alex Hill had
another solid game with 9 points. Dylan McClure and Matt Brown each
scored 8 points and Ben Morrison chipped in with 6 points. Also playing
well for Duke were Ethan Fleweling, Jeff You, Sarthak Patel, Taylor
Cartaglia and Kevin McLaughlin. Sean McCartin led Villanova with 7
points while center Noah Psilopoulos had 6 points and a number of
rebounds.
Purdue 38 - California 28
In a battle of two
undefeated clubs Purdue got off to a rip roaring start to down
California 38-28. The Boilermakers scored the games first 23 points as
California did not score until the second quarter. Guard David DeDonato
had 8 of his game high 12 points in the first half. William Cassels
scored 6 points and Alex Anoli had 5 points including a 3 pointer. Dan
Martel had 5 of his 7 points in the last quarter for California while
Tim LeMasuier scored 5 points.
Kentucky 42 - Texas 37
Texas almost made a great
comeback but fell short against Kentucky 42-37. Kentucky led by 12 with
3:30 to go and got to within 3 points but that was as close as they
would come. Luke Bellone had a number of driving layups to lead
Kentucky with 13 points. Brendan Flaherty was tough inside before
fouling out and scored 10 points. Josh Plunkett had a strong game with
7 points and Eric Mullane had 6 points. Joshua Marcotte led Kentucky
with 10 points while his brother Alex scored 6 points.
UConn 32 - North Carolina 19
The athletic Huskies
remained undefeated by defeating North Carolina 32-19. It was all about
the big D for UConn as they frustrated North Carolina all afternoon.
Matt Brown had a big game on offense scoring a game high 14 points.
Alex Palermo racked up 7 pints and David Crocker picked up 5 points.
Zack Gareri led his club with 8 points followed by 7 from Chris Craig.
Michigan State 34 - Kansas 21
Kansas stayed with
Michigan State in the first half as they trailed 15-11. In the third
quarter the Spartans outscored the Jayhakws 10-2 and ended up with a
34-21 victory. Guard Travis Ricardo led all scorers with 11 points
while Tim Keene and Nick DeSilvio scored 8 points apiece. Tim
Miagliuolo led his club with 6 points.
Week #2
California 39 - Michigan State 37
For the second week in a row California won in the last minute as Matty
Clauson scored with 25 seconds to go to give the Golden Bears a
thrilling 39-37 victory over Michigan State. Mike McKenna connected on
his second three point shot with 45 seconds to go to give Michigan
State a one point lead but Clausson scored his third bucket in the
final quarter and Tim LeMasuier (7 points) nailed a foul shot to
improve California to 2-0. Bruising center Daniel Martel scored 15
points while Austin Polce added 8 points. Mike McKenna led Michigan
State with 12 points followed by 6 each from Travis Ricardo, Tim Keene
and Owen Jordan.
Duke 29 - North Carolina 21
Duke picked up their
first win of the season as they applied the tough D on ACC foe Duke in
a 29-21 victory. Alex Hill led the offensive attack with 12 points
followed by 6 from center Matt Brown, 5 points for Ben Morrison and two
hoops for Dylan McClure. Jeff You, Sarthak Patel, Kevin McLaughlin,
Taylor Cartaglia and Layne Barlow all played great defense for Blue
Devils. Zack Gareri led North Carolina with 8 points, Dean Trahan had 3
baskets and Mike Wang made good on a 3 pointer.
Texas 38 - Syracuse 31
After loosing a heart breaker
last week as the buzzer the Texas rebounded with a 38-31 win over
Syracuse. Center Drew Harmer keyed the victory with 16 points while
Alex Marcotte had a strong game with 8 points. Matt Daly connected for
6 points while Matt Delpozzo scored 4 points and Mike Merna and Kevin
Reidy added one basket each. Joshua Marcotte and Nick Manauto also
played well in helping Texas to its first win. Ste O'Meara led Syracuse
with 10 points while Mike McNamara collected 8 points and Jeff D'Auria
scored 6.
Purdue 40 - Boston College 26
Purdue improved a 16-9
halftime lead to 30-13 after three quarters and waltzed to a 40-26 win
over Boston College. Point guard Michael DeDonato had 6 points after
one quarter and wound up with a game high 16 points. Alex Anoli
finished strong scoring all 8 of his points in the second half. Colin
Wang added 6 points while Tim O'Neil and William Cassels scored 4
points each. Jason Arnaud led BC with 10 points followed by 8 from
Michael Hohrath and 6 for Brendan Carey.
Villanova 36 - Kansas 17
After one quarter Kansas was
tied with Villanova at 4. The Wildcats got it going in the second
quarter by taking an 8 point lead and never looked back in downing the
Jayhawks 36-17. Center Noah Psilopoulos had an outstanding game with a
game high 14 points. Sean McCartin and Connor Merrill each had 6 points
to improve Villanova to 2-0. Taylor O'Brien and Evan Smith each had 4
points for Kansas.
UConn 43 - Kentucky 20
UConn was very impressive in
downing 1-1 Kentucky 43-20. David Brown led all scorers with 14 points.
Alex Palermo had the outside shot going with 12 points including two
three pointers while David Crocket scored 9 points. Brendan Flaherty
was the only offense for Kentucky as he scored 18 points.
Week #1
Week one in the Junior Boys Division included a buzzer beater win for California and an overtime victory for Villanova.
California 39 - Texas 38
California staged a wild 4th quarter comeback to defeat Texas 39-38.
The Longhorns led 35-29 with 3:30 to but that was before Daniel Martel
time. The bruising center scored 8 of his game high 20 points including
the winning shot with no time left. Tim LeMasuirer also had a big
bucket in the final segment and scored 5 points. Austin Polce
contributed 6 points while solo buckets went to Cam Clancy, Jacob
Fisher, Evan Lucey and Matt Clauson. Texas center Drew Harmer led his
club with 9 points. Josh Marcotte had a strong game with 8 points while
Mike Merna and Matt Daly each scored 6 points.
Villanova 33 - Syracuse 31 (OT)
Villanova played
tenacious defense down the stretch and got a key foul shot by Quinn
DiPasquale to send the game into overtime against Syracuse. In the
extra session it was DiPasquale (9 points total) who scored the game
winner as Villanova took a thrilling 33-31 victory. This was a total
team win for Villanova as Mark Keller, Devon Sittler, Fabio Tracana and
Noah Psilopoulos each tailed 4 points while Connor Merrill added one
basket. Justin Plansky led all scorers with 12 points for Syracuse
while Quinn Jackson had 11 points including a 3 pointer and Mike
McNamara scored 8 points.
UCONN 33 - Duke 27
After being down 18-10 at
halftime and 25-20 after 3 quarters UConn staged a 4th quarter comeback
to win their opener over Duke 33-27. David Crocker keyed the surge with
two hoops in the final 3:30 and also came up with a huge block with 50
seconds to go. Matt Brown led the Huskies with 10 points while Alex
Palermo had all of his 6 points in the second half. Sean Doherty had
two baskets and Ryan Loftus had 3 points with his brother John scoring
two points. Duke was led by center Matt Brown as he scored 9 points
while Dylan McClure had a solid came with 6 points.
Purdue 47 - North Carolina 36
It was a difference of two halves in Purdue’s 47-36 victory over North
Carolina. Purdue trailed North Carolina 22-18 at the break but
outscored the Tar Heels 12-2 in the third quarter and by another 5
points in the final quarter to take the 11 point victory. William
Cassels scored 8 of his team high 14 points in the second half. Point
guard Michael DeDonato chipped in with 11 points while Michael
Deangelis contributed 9 points. Colin Wang added 5 point and Alex Anoli
had two baskets in the final quarter. North Carolina center Zack Gareri
was unstoppable as he poured in 19 points. Chris Craig tossed in 7
points and Tim Zachert scored 4 points.
Kentucky 26 - Kansas 20
A game Kansas club almost
pulled off a big comeback but Kentucky would not relent and took a
26-20 victory. Kentucky led 17-9 at the break but a buzzer beating 3
point bomb by Mark Albee in the third quarter brought some life back
into Kansas. The Jay Hawks closed to within 2 points going into the
final 3:30 but Joshua Plunkett scored the only baskets in the final
segment to preserve the win. Luke Bellone led the Wildcats with 9
points followed by 7 from Jack Scaplen and 6 from Plunkett. Center
Brendan Flaherty had 3 points and did a nice job on the boards. Mark
Albee and Tim Miragliuolo each had 5 points for Kansas while AJ
MacGillivray scored 4 points.
Michigan State 29 - Boston College 12
Michigan State’s athleticism was too much for Boston College as the
Spartans rolled to an easy 29-12 victory. Guard Travis Ricardo led all
scorers with 10 points. Nick DiSilvio scored 6 and did a great job on
the boards. Tim Keense helepd out with 3 points while Mike McKenna,
Ryan Taylor, Owen Jordan, Joe Marcotte, and Ian McGinty each scored 2
points for the victors. Jason Arnaud led Boston College with 4 points.
