GENERAL INFORMATION - LEAGUE OVERVIEW
Chelmsford Youth Basketball League (CYBL)
CYBL winter basketball program is offered to all
boys and girls who are in grades 2-12, and are residents of Chelmsford
and/or are attending Chelmsford schools. Please
click on this link to review specific eligibility requirements.
INTRAMURAL teams are divided into several divisions as described below. Separate teams for boys and girls are provided for all divisions. All intramural divisions play in town. Evaluations are mandatory for all divisions except the Mite division .
The CYBL also has TRAVELING teams for boys and girls in grades 5-8.
GAME SCHEDULES, PRACTICES, CANCELLATIONS
Regular intramural season games begin in early December and
end in mid-February. Whenever possible, players are placed on
teams such that practice times do not interfere with the player's
religious education classes.
Practice sessions and games are automatically CANCELED on weekdays
when inclement weather closes the Chelmsford schools.
CANCELLATION of Saturday/Sunday CYBL sessions is the responsibility
of the CYBL Commissioner.
Please see the Cancellations and Rescheduled
Games Web page for details.
VOLUNTEER help is needed to make the CYBL successful. Parents and adults who can help by working at the refreshment stands, helping in fund raising, coaching or assisting teams, becoming a board member, or assisting in other activities are urged to contact the appropriate Division Director (see below) or the CYBL President (please see Board of Directors page for contact info).
CLINICS FOR COACHES, PLAYERS, AND REFEREES
COACHES' clinics/meetings covering philosophy, techniques, rules and referee's viewpoint will be held at the beginning of each season for the MITES, CADETS and JUNIOR Divisions. CYBL officers and division directors will conduct the clinic/meeting. It is expected that ALL coaches in these divisions will attend.
A great deal of helpful Coaches' Information is available on the CYBL Web site. This information is particularly useful for first-time coaches. Please click on this link to review what is available.
A REFEREE'S clinic will be held for all those who are interested in officiating in CYBL. For information contact Jon Silva, Director of Officiating. Please see Board of Directors page for the Director of Officiating contact's info.
Funding for the league is necessary to cover the costs associated with renting gyms for both practice sessions and games and for the fees for game officials, as well as other operating expenses. Funds are derived from the following sources: registration, donations and other fund raising activities.
If you have indicated on the medical registration form information or conditions which might prevent or restrict participation in our program, a letter may be requested from your physician before your child can play. Each individual is expected to be covered by his/her own health insurance program.
CYBL BROTHERHOOD POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT
The CYBL Brotherhood Postseason Basketball Tournament (50-plus
years in existence) is held at the end of the CYBL regular season.
The Chelmsford Brotherhood Tournament became part of the CYBL
program over 20 years ago. Under the guidance of CYBL, the tournament
has steadily expanded throughout the years to include all intramural
CYBL teams above the Mites division. CYBL has kept the name
"Brotherhood Tournament" to honor its founders.
